Long Run Training: 20 miles

Notes:
Success! I made my 20 mile run and I am WAY more confident now that I will finish the San Diego marathon on June 3rd. I burned a cool 1,971 calories (minus the 50-calorie ClifSHOT blocks I took every 30 minutes) and my average pace ended up being 13:20 m/m. Overall, the run wasn't bad. We started at about 6:40AM which was perfect because the Strand was nearly empty and the sun was hardly shining (it was a cloudy and cool, not too cold, morning). My knees did start to hurt a bit around mile 17 or 18 and that actually caused me to walk more than run. Wouldn't you know, "The Black Parade" (by MCR) started playing in my ears just as I was going to start the 19th mile. It certainly put renewed vigor in my stride as I up'd my pace and tempo for a good half-mile. I was going to stop the clock at 20 flat, but decided to run a bit more, just to make sure I really did go for 20 miles. ^_^

This week, I plan to follow the schedule as usual; 8 miles on Wednesday and 12 miles on the weekend. It's taper time and I couldn't be happier!
